Man Madan Ambu, a well scripted romantic comedy flick (of the year). After Unnaipol Oruvan, Kamal rides back in his very favourite tide of humour and romance. And his ride is so smooth that you won’t realize you are already travelling with him right into the film. The film starts with a movie shooting in Kodaikanal with AMBU aka Nisha (Trisha), a leading actress and Surya as himself. Madan (Madavan) a well known industrialist engaged to marry Trisha soon visits her with his family to show her his new Hummer SUV. Events at the shoot lead to a dispute in the couple's relationship forcing Trisha to postpone her marriage with Madan. After some years Trisha (still not married) decides to take up a vacation in a cruise ship from France with her childhood friend and a recent widowee Deepa(Sangeetha) and her kids.
Madan hires Mannar (Kamal), an ex-Indian Army Major and a private detective to spy on her and prove she has an affair. Major Mannar after close watch certifies Nisha is a good girl and advices Madan that he need not spy on her. Madan accepts Mannar's advice and asks him to return to India but refuses him to pay his espionage fee as the trip doesnt go as he expected. Mannar, desperately in need of money for his friend's (Ramesh Arvinth) Chemotherapy and betrayed by Madan's decision to not pay him decides to fool on him. He calls up Madan and raises a false accusation on Nisha that he has seen her meeting a guy. Madan curious to know the details forces Mannar to stay board and continue spying on her while accepting to pay for his friend's medical expenses. The incidents that follow forces Madan to fly to Venice where the ship is then anchored and events that follow are left to the eyes of the viewers.
The best part of the movie is Kamal and his part over the movie. As always his acting is so good. Apart from his acting he takes credit for Story, Screenplay and Dialogue leaving KS Ravikumar to take the directorial part. The thing i enjoyed most in the movie is Kamal's capability to reach into the subtle details that many of us won’t even care recognizing them let alone appreciate. Yet this care for subtle things pays off, particularly in keeping the ride smooth. Baseless logics and unnecessary twists doesnt hit you often. The best dialogue I admired "En Uyir porada pathi kavalapada naan "ANDA" uyiroda piriva thangikka mudiyala”, it’s tempting to use "Matha Uyir" in place of "ANDA" but it is Kamal who is behind it. KSR's direction shows off but his flavour in screen play and humour is missing. Trisha has a good role to play and did her part well. Madavan, Sangeetha all has decent roles. The kid too was good especially in those humour shots.
The movie is a complete family entertainer. On the negative side I could notice is only its slow pace. Though the story is not a fast moving line, the pace is still considerably slow.
Above all Kamal has a very good portrayal of his character, a selfish move i would say. The army major Mannar is a women respecting fully matured character that gives the ultimate fruit of the film.
I would rate the movie as 4 out of 5 with "a must watch family entertainer for the holidays"
